Production of Biopesticides and Biofertilizers

INTRODUCTION
Wide use of chemical pesticides and fertilizers in the agriculture sector, has caused significant environmental and human health problems. So, introduction of new green and safe technologies as alternative for these harmful chemicals is of importance.   In addition, development of use of biopesticides and biofertilizers has been emphasized by the country’s authorities and in the official documents. The world trade of biopesticides and biofertilizers is about 3.3 billion and 800 million US dollars, respectively (with annual growth of 18.8%). So, regarding the importance of these bioproducts, a megaproject has defined for development of biopesticides and biofertilizers (Fig. 1).

ACHIEVEMENTS
•    Achieving efficient Bacillus thuringiensis, Trichoderma and Streptomyces strains as biocontrol and PGPR agents

ONGOING PROJECTS
•    Designing and production of new biofertilizers (PGPRs) for vegetables (Tomato, cucumber, …)
•    Designing and production of new biopesticides
•    Improvement of biocontrol agents using genetic engineering to enhance biocontrol efficiency
•    Collaboration with private sector for semi-industrial and commercial production of biofertilizers and biopesticides
